Coluracetam is a nootropic of the racetam family. Developed and tested by the Mitsubishi Tanabe Pharma Corporation for Alzheimer’s disease. Next it was licensed to BrainCells Inc for investigations into major depression disorder (MDD). Clinical trials (in progress) have suggested that it would be an ideal for co-morbid MDD with generalized anxiety disorder (GAD). Coluracetam is the only known choline uptake enchancer, precisely it enhances high-affinity choline uptake (HACU) which is the rate-limiting step of acetylcholine (ACh). This rate-limiting feature allows the brain to convert choline into Acetylcholine in the neuron. Coluracetam has been show to facilitate AMPA potentiation which is known to increase alertness, memory, and learning capabilities.
Benefits of Coluracetam:
- improve learning impairment on a single oral dose
- long-lasting procognitive effects by changing the choline transporter regulation system
- ameliorating the effects of glutamate neurotoxicity
- increase alertness
- increase memory
- improved focus and concentration
- improved productivity
- improved senses like taste and smell and hearing (enjoyment of music)
- increased eyesight (vivid colors)
- increased social skills
Choline isn’t just a nootropic; it’s also an essential nutrient. And, sadly, its one that is lacking in many peoples diets. One US national study found that only 2% of post-menopausal women get enough choline in their diets. And, to add to that troubling number, adult men should be taking in even more than adult women to achieve maximum choline benefits.
Choline acts as a precursor for a variety of phospholipids (cell membranes) and neurotransmitters. Specifically, acetylcholine (a neurotransmitter) is produced with choline as the essential nutrient behind it. These neurotransmitters are involved in some crucial brain-body activity, ranging from memory and cognition to muscle control and reflexes.
Choline is found naturally in many fatty foods including red meat and eggs. Taken separately, choline supplement can help individuals reach ideal levels of choline in their diet without having to eat a daily serving or two of the aforementioned foods.
Recommended dosage is 1 or 2 capsules per day.
